About Jewel Janan: Founder and Director of the Play Therapy Online Training Academy
Jewel is a Counsellor, Creative Arts Therapist/Psychotherapist, Play Therapist and Writer and an Australian and internationally renowned Play Therapy trainer. Jewel's qualifications include a Masters of Arts in Art Therapy, Diploma of Child Psychotherapy (Play Therapy), Certificate in Rebalancing Bodywork and Bachelor of Education.
Many years ago, Jewel felt a deep calling to Child Centered Play Therapy after reading the beautiful book, Dibs in Search of Self by Dr
Virginia Axline. After initially training in Psychoanalytic Play Therapy in 1996, Jewel followed her passion to immerse in the Humanistic Child Centered Play Therapy approach and to specialize in this way of working with children. In 2001 she founded Play Therapy Australia and after attending the Intensive Supervision Process and Summer Program at the Center for Play Therapy: University of North Texas, Jewel developed the passionate vision of bringing Child Centered Play Therapy training to Australia.
As the Director of Play Therapy Australia from 2001 - March 2015, Jewel presented Child Centered Play Therapy workshops and clinical training programs in different parts of Australia, training for agencies, organisations and universities and she also offered clinical supervision and mentoring. During her time as Director, Play Therapy Australia became the leading training organisation in Australia in Child Centered Play Therapy and the training program Jewel developed was deemed by an international expert to be one of the top five programs in its field in the world. This program included online training and through this, Jewel experienced what an effective and inspiring form of professional development and training this can be which led her to establishing the Play Therapy Online Training Academy.
Jewel was a founding member and the first President of the Australian Play Therapists Association (APTA) and later, was on the advisory board. Her earlier work included Play Therapy, counselling, art therapy and Rebalancing private practice, working in children's residential and foster care programs, with the Department of Child Protection and as a music specialist teacher.
Jewel loves writing and has immersed in all kinds of writing over the past 15 years. She offers online Writing Workshops and has a deep interest in areas relating to healing and spirituality. She has a great love of dogs and lives near the beautiful Fremantle coastal area of Western Australia.
