​Here you will find answers to many of the questions we are asked about the Child Centered Play Therapy Online Course and Workshops.

What does the Play Therapy Online Training include?
  • Our Child Centered Play Therapy training includes audio recordings, video presentations with transcripts and some downloadable written material. There are many case scenarios from the playroom shared in the presentations and also many practice examples to enhance learning and to make this an engaging and interesting professional development /continuing education experience. You have the option to engage in Workshops 1 and 2 or in the Child Centered Play Therapy Online Course which consists of Workshops 1, 2 and 3.

Are the online presentations offered by the Play Therapy Online Training Academy with mental health professionals experienced in working with children in Child Centered Play Therapy and with extensive training backgrounds in Play Therapy?
  • The Play Therapy Online Training Academy offers online training presentations from those with mental health qualifications at a minimum of a Masters level as required by the Association for Play Therapy, USA and with many years experience as mental health professionals such as counsellors, psychologists, social workers, art therapists. The presenters have completed extensive training in Child Centered Play Therapy and are all highly experienced Play Therapists and internationally renowned trainers. 

Is the Play Therapy Online Training self paced or do I have to complete it at certain times each week/month? And how long do I have to complete the training? 
  • The Course and Workshops we offer are self paced so you can engage in the training at times that suit you. The training is available to access 24 hours a day/7 days a week! For Workshops 1 and 2, you have 4 months to complete the training from the date you register/enrol; and for the Child Centered Play Therapy Online Course: Workshops 1, 2 and 3, you have 6 months to complete the training from the date you register/enrol. Is Play Therapy Online Training offered worldwide?
  • Yes, we do offer our online training worldwide.  We have had people from many countries engaging in our training including from: Australia, America, Canada, Portugal, Slovenia, Italy, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Thailand, New Zealand, the UK, South America, Africa, Nepal, India, Pakistan, Indonesia, Uganda, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Turkey. You will need to have internet access as our training is all online. 

Is the training offered by the Play Therapy Online Training Academy Accepted by other Professional Associations, Registering Bodies and other Workplaces and Groups? 
  • Our training is accepted by many other professional associations in mental health fields, registering bodies, workplaces and other groups and has been accepted by some universities for special projects in Masters level programs. If you  are a social worker, psychologist, counsellor, psychotherapist, arts therapist, mental health nurse or other mental health professional wishing to specialise in the Child Centered Play Therapy approach, we recommend engaging in further experiential training to complement our online training or to work with a clinical supervisor who specialises in this Play Therapy approach.  

Is the Play Therapy Online Training Academy an Approved Provider of Training with any Play Therapy associations?
  • The Play Therapy Online Training Academy is an Approved Provider of Play Therapy Training and Continuing Education with the leading international Play Therapy association, the Association for Play Therapy (APT) in America: APT Approved Provider #18-556 and is also an Approved Training Provider with the Australian Play Therapists Association (APTA).

I am keen to become a Registered Play Therapist with the Association for Play Therapy (APT) . Can you give me further information about this?
  • For information about becoming a Registered Play Therapist with the Association for Play Therapy (APT) please visit their website: www.a4pt.org For those in countries other than America, you would need to contact APT to check if your mental health qualifications meet their requirements. The Play Therapy Online Training Academy offers up to 24 hours of non-contact training that is approved by the Association for Play Therapy. 

Does your Play Therapy training meet the training standards of the Australian Play Therapists Association (APTA) and will the hours of online training be accepted towards the training hours required to become a Registered Play Therapist with APTA?
  • Our Play Therapy training meets the training standards of this peak Play Therapy association in Australia and can count towards the hours of online training accepted by APTA towards registration as a Play Therapist - please visit their website for further information about their mental health qualification and other requirements: www.apta.asn.au and any questions about becoming a Registered Play Therapist with APTA, need to be directed to them.

How Can I Get Certification as a Child Centered Play Therapist?
  • On completion of the Child Centered Play Therapy Online Course, you are eligible to apply to enter the National Institute of Relationship Enhancement (NIRE) certification program in Child Centered Play Therapy (subject to meeting NIRE's  mental health qualification requirements). This involves 26 hours of Child Centered Play Therapy clinical supervision and skills consultation work with a NIRE approved clinical supervisor for mental health professionals. This can be done from from a distance and is a wonderful opportunity to engage in high quality clinical supervision to support this wonderful work with children and families.  Please visit www.nire.org for further information and any questions about NIRE's Certification Program need to be directed to Dr Rob Scuka at NIRE.

If I complete the training offered by the Play Therapy Online Training Academy, does this mean I am a Registered or Certified Play Therapist?
  • The training offered by the Play Therapy Online Training Academy does not award a qualification, registration or certification as a Play Therapist but offers high quality professional development and continuing education in Child Centered Play Therapy.  Our hours of online/non-contact training are accepted by the Association for Play Therapy, USA - the leading international Play Therapy association and our training meets the training standards of the Australian Play Therapists Association. This means that those who meet the mental health qualification and other requirements of APT and APTA, can have the hours of training with the Play Therapy Online Training Academy count towards online/non-contact hours of training for becoming a Registered Play Therapist.       

​Can I get a statement of hours of training I have completed with the Play Therapy Online Training Academy?
  • You will receive a statement of hours of online/non-contact  training and a Certificate of Attendance after completing the training and the quizzes that require a 75 percent pass rate. You can redo quiz questions if necessary and these also help to reinforce your learning.  

Can agencies and organisations register their counsellors/therapists for this training?
  • Yes, we have had many agencies and organisations in different countries register their counsellors/therapists/ practitioners for the Play Therapy Online Training.  We are pleased to offer a special rate for agencies and organisations and other groups wishing to register 4 or more people. Please contact us for further information as the rate we offer is linked with the number of people being registered.                                                                                              

Do you give recommendations for clinical supervisors who specialise in Child Centered Play Therapy?
  • We include the details of some clinical supervisors with our online training. Clinical supervision is an important and essential part of Play Therapy work with children. There is also a list of Registered Clinical Supervisors (RPT-S) on the Association for Play Therapy website in the USA. 

I'm a teacher, nurse, allied health professional, child and family support worker in Australia and would love to be a Play Therapist.  What qualifications do I need to have to offer Play Therapy sessions where Play Therapy is a form of counselling and psychotherapy?
  • Our Play Therapy Online Training will give you information and knowledge about the Child Centered Play Therapy approach. We expect there will be many things that you can use and integrate in your current work with children but you will not be able to offer Play Therapy sessions. You would need to have a qualification as a social worker, psychologist, counsellor (we recommend a minimum of a Bachelor degree in Australia and a higher level is required in America), psychotherapist, arts therapist or creative arts therapist (recommended is a minimum of a Masters qualification), mental health nurse or have a Masters in Play Therapy.  The Play Therapy training is specialist training that builds on the primary qualification in a mental health field.  ​

What is the Cancellation and Refund Policy of the Play Therapy Online Training Academy?
  • As the training offered by the Play Therapy Online Training Academy is with experts in the field of Child Centered Play Therapy and is non-contact / online training, no refunds are given. Should there be technical issues with the training, these will be attended to as quickly as possible and additional time will be given to registrants to complete the training. Should the unlikely situation arise where training was cancelled, those registered for the training and still completing it, will be given a full refund of the training fee paid.
